Black Panthers Exhibit at the Oakland Museum in honor of the 50th Anniversary, February 18th, 2017.

5 Elements Youth Network honors black (her)story year round ⚡️ and for this occasion we encourage our friends & families to visit the “All Power To The People” Black Panther Party 50th Anniversary exhibit at the Oakland Museum, up until Feb 26, 2017. It’s a beautiful display of the rich legacy of black leadership in local movements.

In 1966 young people in the Bay Area organized and inspired efforts nationally to created community social programs that met people’s basic needs. Only WE can create change!

5 Elements Youth Network at the Indigenous People’s Sunrise Ceremony at Alcatraz Island on October 10th, 2016.

Students from our founding cohort attended the annual sunrise ceremony that reclaims Columbus Day in honor of the continued survival and resistance by indigenous communities of all tribes. Participants were exposed to the history of resilience in the U.S., observe and participate in an intimate ceremony.

For many of our students it was their first time on the island, and a great way to experience both Alcatraz and a sunrise in the spirit of unity, culture and community empowerment.

Today we’re at the SFUSD Administrator’s Institute 2016 talking about our work with hip-hop & social-emotional learning.
